Description
Trummery Quarry, Castle Robin/ White Mountain, County Antrin, Northern Ireland
The transparent squared off crystals on this specimen likely represent epistilbite (vs flat topped stilbites) and rests in a vug with chabazite and over radiating brown crystals seen on the edges of the plate which may be mordenite. Described in detail in a handwritten letter by Foy to William Metropolis. Mr. Foy was sending samples to William Metropolis from this rare location for study and analysis. Attempts to find further zeolites were hampered as the rig fell over the edge of the quarry and was destroyed. Although this piece shows edge damage where it was extracted and is not so pretty, it is a very rare piece from a novel locality.
