Description
Huanuni Mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia
An exceptionally well formed vivanite crystal shows the textbook chisel of the monoclinic form. Very dark green in ambient light, directed lighting reveals forest green and navy-blue colors and a gemmy crystal. When found, vivianite is usually colorless but exposure to the atmosphere and oxygen changes the Fe2+ to Fe3+ resulting in deep colors. This crystal is nicely perched on a metamorphosed sandstone which is embedded partially in the back of the crystal. Undamaged, this is a great piece with detailed crystal form.
