Description
Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA
Perched aesthetically on a thin shard of dolomite matrix is a gemmy, twinned, doubly terminated calcite crystal, measuring 13 cm. This crystal demonstrates and unusually rich cognac color and is better colored than many pieces from this area. The calcite is twinned down the center of the piece {0001} crystal face and has some crystal splitting on each end termination which give it a resemblance to a bird’s wing. These pieces have become modern classics and this is a fantastic and beautiful example of a mine once prolific, but now closed.
