Description
Topaz Mountain, Thomas Range, Juab County, Utah, USA
A sherry-colored topaz crystal is well formed and a good size for the location. This piece is flattened with a steeply sloping termination. Also shows with extra crystal faces and a small six-sided pinacoid at its very top. The bottom is recrystallized and it forms on a rhyolite (lava) matrix which is included heavily within the crystal. While topaz crystals from other locations can be quite big, these topazes actually form within gas bubbles (vesicles) from cooling lava so generally they are much smaller than pegmatic topaz.
