Cornwall Mines (Cornwall Iron Mine), Cornwall Borough, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, USA
This specimen shows the classic and unique association of tiny microcrystalline pyrite crystals dusted over tan stilbite. The stilbites have a matte wheat sheath form and the pyrite creates a gold to bronze color and sparkle over the piece. The Cornwall Mines were 3 open pit mines in Pennsylvania that ran from 1732 until 1972 when Hurricane Agnes flooded the workings. It mined iron and other metals during its long operation.
