Description
Ichinokawa Mine, Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku Island, Japan
This is a lustrous stibnite from the world famous Ichinokawa Mine in Japan, a very rare locality. This specimen is silver gray in color, and the crystals intertwine with each other creating a very aesthetic specimen. This site is famous for producing world class specimens of stibnite. But unfortunately for those of us from this time era they were largely produced in the 19th century. Much was lost to ore usage and more have been buried in collections and museums. The locality put out pieces until the 1950s when the mine was exhausted. For historic collections, this was THE stibnite locality although today we generally think of China in terms of large stibnite production. It has a few minor nicks on the outside edges which is to be expected from this locality, especially with its age.
