Description
Commodore Mine, Creede, Mineral County, Colorado, USA
Sulfides and amethyst from the Commodore Mine in southern Colorado have become US classics for the gemminess and sharpness of the crystals. This piece host sharp tetrahedrons and modified crystals of gem honey to amber colored sphalerite. They have formed with chalcopyrites that weathered to have a bronzish patina. Stong backlighting shows the gem nature of the sphalerites on the tops and sides. A sizeable plate rich in details, this piece shows no damage except at the bottom edge where the piece was taken off of the rock.
