Description
Shigar Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan Gilgit-Baltistan (Northern Areas), Pakistan
A very attractive specimen features multiple spessartite garnets with a deep reddish orange color on a nest of small muscovite mica crystals. The garnets are complex with tiny reticulations seen on most crystal faces and are translucent with strong lighting. Small crystals of feldspar (orthoclase) also rest amongst the main crystals giving contrast and detail. The reverse of the piece features less muscovite and garnet, but more feldspar. Only a small area of the thin side of the piece is off the rock, giving multiple viewing angles. This piece shows classic minerals of the Shigar Valley, but in a more atypical formation.
