Description
Erongo Mountain, Karibib, Erongo Region, Namibia
A grouping of black schorl tourmaline is aesthetically perched on an unusually well formed and interesting microcline crystal. Famous for its well formed black tourmalines, these black tourmalines are stubby with sharp terminations. They almost form a flower type arrangement on a backdrop of a complex microcline crystal. The base of the microcline is smooth and “normal” appearing whereas the majority of the crystals has a deeply textured surface. Perthitic (or alternating, subtle bands) texture is commonly seen in microcline, but this texture is much deeper and well formed. Despite the surface modifications, the crystal retains its macro shape and terminates nicely at its top. Tiny microcrystals of schorl and other minerals are embedded in the texture of the white feldspar, giving it a nice detailing of color.
