Description
Ratnapura, Ratnapura District, Sabaragamuwa Province, Sri Lanka
This is an outstanding sapphire which grew with great complexity and a gorgeous cornflower blue color. Sri Lankan crystals typically have the best formations and this is no exception. The horizontal growth striae are prominent and catch the light. It is doubly terminated, but there is minor contacting on the back side of one of the terminations. The Ratnapura locality is a source of faceted gemstones, and specimens often show damage because of how the material is commonly handled on site. This piece is damage free.
