Description
Coonabarabran, Gowen County, New South Wales, Australia
When one thinks of world class stilbites, one does not typically think… Australia. However, the Coonabarabran area in NSW absolutely produces amazing stilbite in richly saturated salmon to orange colors – almost a “padpradasha” type color. The stilbites also form with glassy rounded clear balls of quartz which are also unique. Of the few pieces I have seen from this area, they are all remarkable different in their compositions. This piece hosts gemmy and translucent stilbites with double terminations and rich, beautiful color. They are nicely detailed and distinct from each other, and highlighted by the quartz botryoids. This piece was previously in the American Museum of Natural History and the collections of Phil Scalesi, William Metropolis, and George Elling
