Description
Annabel Lee Mine, Hardin County, Harris Creek Sub-District, Illinois
This is an exceptionally aesthetic and small cluster of fluorites which is a complete floater. This specimen has small chalcopyrite inclusions and has tabular elongated cubes. It has a usual and distinct phantom as you go toward the center, where there is a sharp purple line going into a vibrant yellow, and shows a candy luster. One display side of the piece is “normal” with squared cubes and flat crystal faces. The other has undergone some dissolution, creating fine reticulations and almost a leaf type pattern. The piece is undamaged but some tiny areas of the corners on one cube are soft- partially dissolved or incompletely formed. There is crystallization and / or mineralization over these areas by microscopic examination. In daylight it is a nice blue violet color and directed lighting brings out the yellow cores.
