Description
Carbonera Mine, La Trinidad, Mun. de Tequisquiapan, Queretaro, Mexico
The Carbonera Mine in the famous Queretaro area of Mexico is famous for its production of both precious opal and fire opal. This piece demonstrates large areas of precious opal showing great play of color in a full rainbow of reds to blues and purples. The opal is hosted by a pink to tan rhyolite and has precious opal areas on its back and side as well. The main area of opal shows some fracturing, but cabs of precious opal could be cut from this piece. The background colors would likely be clear to orange.
