Description
Luck Quarry/ Fairfax Quarry, Centerville, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
Rare orange botryoidal clusters of stilbite arrange in a small vug in the trap rock basalt matrix. The clusters are lustrous and translucent in a bright, very bright yellowish orange color not typically seen in stilbite from any location. The spherical aggregates measure about 1.0 cm in diameter and are undamaged. Although the Fairfax Quarry is famous for its apophyllite crystals, I think its stilbites and chabazites are also incredible. This piece was collected by G. Brewer and was also in William Metropolis and George Elling’s collections.
