Description
Annabel Lee Mine, Harris Creek Sub-District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA
A very pretty piece from the classic Annabel Lee Mine in Illinois, hosts a relatively rare color combination. The cubes of fluorite are predominantly yellow with a very thin and very sharp light blue phantom. Close examination of the cubes also shows that the yellow color is actually composed of many dark yellow to white bands best seen with bright back light. There are many chalcopyrites included within the cubes and also on their surfaces. These are quite interesting under the microscope with true crystalline forms even as inclusions. The back of the piece is off of the rock and there are small areas of edgewear and one small area of damage. Overall, the piece is in good condition and shows a color combination more often thought of as European than Illinois.
