Denton Mine, Harris Creek Sub-District, Hardin County, Illinois, USA
I just love this piece. Gemmy purple fluorites have yellow cores and sit amongst very showy and complex sphalerite crystals. The sphalerites are gemmy and orangy brown with bright light and form large formations with extensive crystal splitting. In all the tiny crevasses between the little sphalerite terminations there are tiny golden chalcopyrites or white to tan colored barites. The contrast and sculptural aesthetics of this piece can be seen in many different orientations. This piece is a fantastic example of Denton Mine which is a modern classic and long closed.
