Description
Green Monster Mountain, Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan District, Alaska, USA
A well crystallized cluster of epidote has a detailed and visually interesting habit of a dark green crystal sprays. It also has an interesting semi-metallic hue and combines with small terminated quartz points. Green Monster Mountain is located in southeastern coastal Alaska and historically, treacherous expeditions to the area were often planned by major museums and collectors to this remote area. Initially, this skarn was mined for copper, but in 1915 interest in its epidote specimens grew as the quality became known. This piece is from the US National Museum.
