Description
Wagholi Quarries, Wagholi, Pune District, Maharashtra, India
Three gorgeous groupings of blue rosette cavansite sits perfectly on a reddish to gray brecciated andesite matrix. The Wagholi Quarries of India were worked for the fine basalt which covered the first 10 meters from the soil downwards. The basalt was used for construction while the underlying andesite was too porous for industrial use. This was left alone until 1989, when a pillar of andesite was found reaching the surface. Out of some vexation over the taxation, the quarry owner had the pillar quarried. Within the porous andesite, the first cavansites were found and the best pieces were found around the 8-10 meter mark of this formation and similar formations in other areas around Wagholi.
