Description
Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mun. de Mapimí, Durango, Mexico
From old stock, this piece shows the teal colored anhydrous carbonate aurichalcite incorporated into small rounded crystals of calcite topped by white, unincluded calcite crystals. The piece has great luster. Small highlights of bright yellow botryoidal mimetite. The entire piece has formed on the usual Ojuela Mine limonite gossan matrix. This piece represents the find that occurred prior to 1970. A more recent find in 2009 showed a similar phenomenon, but the calcite crystals were rhombohedrons and not the pretty small rounded formations. Despite its age, it is undamaged and has only small wear at its edges.
