Description
Attr. Antetezambato Demantoid – Topazolite Mine, Antsakoamanondro, Ambanja, Diana, Madagascar
An amazing, large, and completely crystallized specimen of andradite (demantoid) garnet shows a slightly elongated trapezohedron form. It is gemmy with glassy luster. It is not fluorescent, but changes to an orangish color with incandescent light. In LED it is a brighter grassy green color than it is in ambient daylight. Complete floater garnet pieces of demantoid are quite rare, especially in this whopper of a size. Reportedly from Africa, its color, characteristics, and form look quite distinctive for Madagascar, where I have attributed its locality.
