Description
Marki Khel, Spin Ghar Range, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan
Beautiful coffee colored andradite garnets show sharp textbook dodecahedral form and interpenetrant growth on this lustrous piece. The larger brown garnets are sharply contrasted with the first generation growth of smaller green andradite garnets on which they later grew. The flat surfaces of the larger garnets have a mirror like reflection and close oblique examination shows details of low growth hillocks. A beautiful miniature from an often overlooked garnet locality. There is no damage and although the back is off of the rock, there is still small crystallization present.
