Description
Vakinankaratra Region, Betafo District, Antananarivo Province, Madagascar
This scepter features two intergrown quartz crystals, rising parallel. They are capped by amethyst caps that have wrapped themselves around the tops of the quartz crystals. There is a clear color zone phantom within the caps composed of platelets of red, orange, and black hematite inclusions. The piece is doubly terminated and a complete floater, but there are small areas of damage at the very tips of quartz, although these are difficult to see on display. Madagascar pieces are often not in pristine condition because they are often mined by artisanal miners with hand tools.
